Calgary’s First Ever Annual Chalk the Block Competition & Festival

Montgomery BIA is super excited to present Calgary's  first ever Chalk the Block Competition and Festival.

​

When: June 22, 2024 - Deadline for entries May 15

​

Where: Montgomery - Bowness Road between 45th – 47th Street

​

What: The first ever Annual Street Chalk Competition is coming to Calgary.  A one-day event where artists compete for cash and prizes at various skill levels.

 

How it works:     Artists arrive at 8:30 to begin their masterpiece.  They will have until 4:30 to complete then judging will begin.  

 

Competing artists will be eligible for prizes in a variety of age levels. 100 artists will be given a 4’x 4′ or 6’x 6′ space on Bowness Road to create their colorful chalk masterpiece.

 

Categories of Age Levels are:

Elementary School – team (Grades 1 – 5)

Elementary School – single

Middle School – team (Grades 6 – 9)

Middle School – single

High School – team (Grades 10 – 12)

High School – single

Adult – team

Adult – single

*Prizes are $150 for first, $100 for second and $50 for 3rd.

 

University or College – team

University or College – single

Prizes are $1000 for First, 500 for second. 

 

People’s Choice Award /Tote Winner– Voted on by attendees of the festival. Winner will receive a Montgomery Gift Bag with over $500 in gift certificates from local businesses.  The winning artwork will be featured on the following year's tote bag.

 

All entrants will be entered into a draw for a Montgomery Gift Bag with over $250 in gift certificates from local businesses.

 

2024 Applications will open March 15th with 10 artists per category. 

 

A registration fee of $10 covers a tote bag with all the chalk you will need to complete your drawing plus some extra goodies for fun.  The first 5 registrants will be free (a little incentive to get your application in).

THE EXPERIENCE:

• Chalk art competition

• Local artist vendors selling their goods.

• Live Music from 11 am – 5 pm.

• Street Performers (Jingle Dancing, Jugglers, etc.)

• Face Painting

• Local Calgary Brewery Beer Garden

• Exciting promotions by local Montgomery businesses.

• Judging and prizes start at 4 pm.
